Chuck Sipes Bodybuilder

Chuck Harry Sipes was born in Sterling, Illinois USA on August 22, 1932, he had one older brother. Chuck joined the US Army in 1950, signing up to be trained as a paratrooper. While he was in training at Fort Benning, Georgia, his parachute did not open on a practice jump and Chuck was lucky to get his parachute tangled up with another trooper and free-fell 70 feet to hit the ground hard.
Chuck spent the next 4 months in an Army Hospital dealing with severe leg and head injuries which later triggered many recurring epileptic seizures that in his life contributed to fits of depression that he experienced later in his life. When Chuck was discharged in 1952 he went back to playing football and training hard at becoming a top bodybuilder.
Chuck has always preferred training with heavy weights and gained a lot of muscle which got him the Mr. America title in 1959. Chuck went on to win the IFBB Mr. Universe contest in 1960, the NABBA Mr. World in 1967 and the IFBB Mr. World title in 1968.
Chuck always had a dream of competing after the age of 40, he did reach his goal when he won the Mr. Pacific Coast title at age 41. Chuck used to do strength shows for the teenagers he was trying to inspire by doing what hid training partner Bill Pearl did, bending iron bars and blowing up different hot water bottles, or driving a nail through a two-inch-thick wooden plank or breaking chains.
Chuck stood 5'9 1/2" tall and weighed 220lbs with 20" arms, he was nicknamed the "Iron Knight" and was able to do 570lbs bench-press, a 600lbs squat plus a standing barbell curl with 250 pounds. Chuch Sipes spent more than 20 years working for the Californian School System and the influential Youth Authority.
Chuck would often take a group of teenagers on many week-long trips where they would be taught survival skills on the mountains learning how to rely on their teamwork for survival. Despite his enormous contribution he made to health and fitness Chuck Sipes committed suicide on the 24th February 1993 at 61 years old. He was inducted into the "Joe Weider Hall Of Fame" posthumously in 2002.
Chuck Sipes Workout
The type of workout routine Chuck Sipes used when training for bodybuilding contests was a power bodybuilding approach using very heavy weights in the basic exercises such as squats, bench press, rows, deadlifts, press over head, etc. He also did super heavy partial reps and supports to build his ligament and tendon strength.
He trained six days a week working each body part three times a week. He never stayed on a fixed routine instead he preferred instinctive training and would go by how he felt that day as far as exercises, weights, reps and sets. This keep his body and mind from going stale or getting bored.
Chuck Sipes Diet
Chuck followed a well balanced diet of natural foods including eggs, raw milk, nuts, meats, fish, whole grains, vegetables and fruit. He avoided processed food and all foods that contained white flour and white sugar.
He also used his own "muscle bulk drink" which contained the following:
2 cups raw milk

1 spoon Ovaltine
1 banana
1 scoop natural ice cream
