Many would consider Charlton Heston the original action star, he stood at six foot three inches tall and weighted a well muscled two hundred six pounds along with his square jawed, rugged good looks and booming voice he dominated the screen.
Starring in movies such The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man, Soylent Green, Earthquake, etc. he did a lot of shirtless scenes to show off his wide shoulders, muscular chest and arms.
Heston is quoted as saying "an actor's primary tool is his body!" and he put in the work to make sure he looked good even into his later years, he didn't smoke and was very consistent with his strict exercise program and diet plan.
Without Charlton Heston to lead the way we might have never seen action stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
Charlton Heston Workout
He always kept very fit and was a very physical actor who had strength as well as functional ability that he used in his movies to run, punch, sword fight, ride horses, drive a chariot, etc.
Charlton believed is daily exercise, he worked out every day in the gym, even when he was traveling. He did a Varity of exercise including weight training, jogging, swimming, exercycle, chin-ups, push-ups and playing tennis which he was very good at and even did exhibition tennis matches and competed in celebrity tennis tournaments.
Even later in life he would still do a workout routine in his pool for forty minutes every morning.
Charlton Heston Diet
Charton followed a balanced high protein, moderate carbohydrate and low fat diet his whole life.
For protein he liked to eat steak, chicken and fish.
For carbohydrates he liked rice.
And for healthy fats he liked peanut butter.
To keep his weight down he didn't eat too much bread and he only very occasionally ate desserts.
